What is embossed in register (EIR) film?
On an embossed in register film, the texture you feel follows the wood grain you see. That is what makes it look and feel closer to real wood than a printed film with a general texture.

How it works
A wood grain film is made in two main steps. First the wood pattern is printed onto the film. Then the surface is embossed with a texture.
- General embossing: the texture is the same all over the film and does not follow the printed grain. It adds a pleasant feel, but the pores and lines you touch are not where the grain is.
- Embossed in register (EIR): the embossing is made to match the printed pattern and is lined up with it, so the grooves and pores sit exactly on the printed grain lines. "In register" means the two are aligned.
Because print and texture must line up along the whole roll, EIR film needs a matching pair of printing and embossing designs for each pattern. That is why each EIR color is a dedicated design.
Why choose EIR
- A more natural look in side light, where you see the texture follow the grain.
- A real wood feel when you touch cabinet and wardrobe doors.
- A higher-end finish for furniture fronts and wall panels, without the cost of real wood veneer.
Where it is used
EIR film is popular for surfaces people see up close and touch every day: kitchen cabinet doors, wardrobes, interior doors, furniture and wall panels. It can be applied by flat lamination, vacuum membrane pressing or profile wrapping.
